Prof. Rubhausen heads the Optics Working Group at the Institute of Nanostructure and Solid-State Physics at Universität Hamburg and serves as the Institute’s Managing Director. He is also affiliated with the Center for Free-Electron Laser Science (CFEL). His research focuses on advanced spectroscopic methods, including Raman spectroscopy and ellipsometry, which he applies to study superconductors, quantum materials, and biological and inorganic samples at large-scale research facilities such as PETRA III and FLASH.
With over 180 publications and approximately 4,000 citations, Prof. Rubhausen has contributed to prestigious journals like Physical Review Letters, JACS, Angewandte Chemie, Nature Chemistry, Nature Physics, Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, and Nature Communications. Additionally, he is developing AI-supported analysis workflows for complex datasets, a skill that could be pivotal for analyzing cold plasma interactions with biological materials.
The appointment comes as Viromed Medical, listed since October 2022, seeks to expand the medical applications of cold plasma technology. The company, through its subsidiary Viromed Medical GmbH, distributes innovative cold plasma products across the DACH region and beyond. By integrating cutting-edge spectroscopic expertise, Viromed aims to better understand how cold plasma affects materials at a fundamental level, potentially leading to more effective medical treatments.
Cold plasma, often described as ionized gas, has shown promise in wound healing, disinfection, and even cancer therapy. However, its mechanisms of action are not fully understood.
