Viromed Medical AG Secures Federal Funding for Cold Plasma Technology Development

Viromed Medical AG, a medical technology company specializing in cold plasma technology, announced that it has received funding approval from the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space. The funding, granted under the Research Allowance Act (FZulG), amounts to a high six-figure euro range and will support research and development projects focused on advancing cold plasma applications in medicine.

The funding will primarily drive the development of two key systems. The first is PulmoPlas®, a stationary system designed for integration into ventilation processes to inactivate pathogenic germs in the lower respiratory tract. This innovation could offer new therapeutic approaches in intensive care medicine, targeting hospital-acquired infections that are often resistant to antibiotics. The second system is ViroCap®, a mobile device for contact-free plasma application to support wound healing. Both projects aim to address critical medical challenges and expand the current state of the art.

According to Viromed, the funding underscores the company's innovative capabilities and confirms the scientific and technological relevance of its solutions. Cold plasma technology, which uses ionized gas at room temperature, has shown promise in disinfecting surfaces and promoting tissue regeneration without the use of drugs. The application of cold plasma in the lungs represents a novel approach, with no comparable systems currently existing. This development could pave the way for non-pharmacological treatments for infectious diseases, particularly in settings where antibiotic resistance is a concern.

Viromed Medical AG, listed on the stock exchange since October 2022, operates through its wholly owned subsidiary Viromed Medical GmbH. The company distributes cold plasma technology for medical applications across the DACH region and beyond. With this funding, Viromed aims to consistently advance the development of PulmoPlas® and ViroCap®, strengthening its position in the field of non-pharmacological treatments.
