Twin Lighting Fairs in Hong Kong Spotlight Smart and Green Trends, Featuring 900 Exhibitors

The 3rd Smart Lighting Expo and the 17th Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition) opened today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, running from April 20 to 23. Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the twin fairs feature around 900 exhibitors, including newcomers from the Netherlands and Vietnam, under the theme "Go Smart, Live Green." The debut of "Light Lab" showcases immersive scenario-based designs focusing on innovation and sustainability, unveiling 2026 lighting trends.

Jenny Koo, Deputy Executive Director of HKTDC, emphasized the fairs' role in promoting Hong Kong as an innovation hub and supporting the mega-event economy. Key exhibitors include Absen, whose LED displays were used at the World Cup and World Expos, and Shanghai Sansi, which supplies over 60% of screens in New York's Times Square. The new Smart Commercial Display & Stage Audio-Visual Zone features lighting for cultural tourism and performing arts.

According to Statista, the global smart lighting market is projected to reach US$44 billion by 2030. The International Energy Agency highlights an imminent second wave of LED transformation, with opportunities in regions where LED penetration is low, particularly in residential sectors. Early-generation LEDs are also reaching end of life, driving demand for efficient and intelligent systems.

The "Light Lab" in Hall 3 includes three zones: Lumin Garden displays garden and solar lighting; Lumin Arena showcases stadium lights from Foshan Electrical and Lighting, which are 20-45% lighter; and Lumin Gallery focuses on museum lighting with ultra-low glare spotlights from Guangdong ThinkGisp. Group pavilions from Zhongshan, Shanghai, and Shenzhen further highlight smart home and IoT solutions.

Four major trends emerge: smart lighting (e.g., BWEETECH's smart control knob), green lighting (e.g., Absen's low-carbon display), entertainment lighting (e.g., Zhongyuan Innovation's dynamic backlight), and human-centric lighting (e.g., Shenzhen Norming's dim-to-warm track lights). The Asian Lighting Forum and Smart Lighting Solution Forum will discuss immersive experiences and smart living, with experts from ANH Design Company (Taiwan) and Tungsten (Shanghai).

The fairs underscore Hong Kong's role in the global lighting industry, driving innovation and sustainability. For more details, visit the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition) and Smart Lighting Expo websites.
