Trilogy Metals Inc. (NYSE American: TMQ) (TSX: TMQ) has expressed support for the U.S. Department of the Interior's decision to transfer approximately 1.4 million acres of federal land within Alaska's Dalton Utility Corridor to the State of Alaska. The company said this move could facilitate infrastructure development, including the proposed Ambler Road project, and help advance critical mineral exploration and development in the Ambler Mining District.
The land transfer is seen as a strategic step toward unlocking the mineral potential of the Ambler Mining District, which hosts polymetallic volcanic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits containing copper, zinc, lead, gold, and silver, as well as carbonate replacement deposits with high-grade copper and cobalt mineralization. Trilogy Metals, through its 50% interest in Ambler Metals LLC, holds a 100% interest in the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects (UKMP) located within the district. South32, a globally diversified mining company, holds the other 50% stake in Ambler Metals.
The Ambler Mining District is considered one of the richest and most prospective copper-dominant districts in the world. Exploration efforts have focused on the Arctic VMS deposit and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit, both situated within a land package spanning approximately 190,929 hectares. Ambler Metals has an agreement with NANA Regional Corporation, Inc., an Alaska Native Corporation, which provides a framework for exploration and potential development in cooperation with local communities.
Trilogy Metals' vision is to develop the Ambler Mining District into a premier North American copper producer while protecting and respecting subsistence livelihoods. The company views the land transfer as a positive step toward achieving that goal, as it could enable the construction of the Ambler Road, a critical infrastructure project that would provide access to the district for exploration and development activities.
