NEW YORK and DENVER — Total Wireless has announced an expanded partnership with Western Union, bringing a suite of financial services to its retail locations across the United States. The services, which include money transfers, bill pay, and money orders, will be introduced in select stores immediately and will expand to additional locations through the end of 2026. This move is designed to give communities greater access to essential financial tools, particularly in areas where traditional banking services may be limited.
The partnership builds on Total Wireless's earlier initiative as the first U.S. wireless carrier to offer monthly fee-free money transfers to eligible customers. Under the expanded agreement, customers on MAX 5G BYO, MAX 5G, and ALL ACCESS plans will continue to receive one fee-free Western Union money transfer per month, redeemable online, via the Western Union app, or at participating Total Wireless stores. For all customers, standard Western Union rates will apply for bill pay, money orders, and money transfer services.
David Kim, President of Verizon Value, emphasized the community-focused nature of the partnership: "Our stores are gathering places in the communities we serve. By adding Western Union to the retail experience, we’re expanding access to everyday financial services for everyone." He noted that customers can now handle financial transactions alongside their wireless needs, reinforcing the brand's commitment to putting community first.
Jesse Mory, Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at Western Union, highlighted the convenience and reach of the collaboration: "Millions of customers rely on Western Union to move money across borders with speed and confidence. By bringing our services to Total Wireless stores, we’re meeting more customers where they already shop and expanding access to reliable, convenient financial services." Western Union's network spans more than 200 countries and territories, with over 360,000 payout locations worldwide, ensuring broad accessibility.
This expansion is significant because it integrates financial services into a retail environment that is often more accessible to underserved communities. Total Wireless, which operates 2,000 exclusive stores nationwide, is part of the Verizon Value portfolio of prepaid brands. The company has positioned itself as a community-centric provider, supporting local nonprofits through its Total Spark program. By adding Western Union services, Total Wireless is furthering its mission to offer meaningful value beyond connectivity, potentially increasing foot traffic and customer loyalty.
For consumers, the availability of money transfers, bill pay, and money orders at Total Wireless stores could reduce the need to travel to separate financial service providers, saving time and money. The monthly fee-free transfer benefit for eligible plan customers adds tangible value to their wireless plans, differentiating Total Wireless in a competitive prepaid market. As the rollout continues through 2026, more communities will gain access to these essential services, potentially bridging gaps in financial inclusion.
