Quantum BioPharma Reports Encouraging Preliminary Data from MS Imaging Study

Quantum BioPharma (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM) has reached the halfway point in patient enrollment for its pilot multiple sclerosis (MS) imaging study conducted with Massachusetts General Hospital. Preliminary PET imaging data from the study show encouraging signals in acute MS lesions, suggesting that the novel imaging technique may be able to distinguish between demyelinated nerve fibers that could still recover and those that have undergone permanent damage. This capability could provide a more precise method for assessing myelin loss and repair, which is central to understanding disease progression and treatment efficacy.

The findings are directly relevant to Lucid-MS, the company's investigational compound designed to inhibit demyelination by targeting the enzyme PAD2, which is implicated in myelin degradation. A more precise imaging tool combined with a drug candidate that addresses the underlying cause of MS presents a compelling combination. Reaching the enrollment midpoint with promising early data suggests that the science is holding up under real clinical conditions, according to a recent article.

The study's progress is a critical step in validating the imaging technique, which could become a valuable biomarker for MS clinical trials. Currently, monitoring myelin repair in patients is challenging, and standard MRI techniques are limited in their ability to differentiate between various types of tissue damage. This new approach, if successful, could accelerate the development of therapies aimed at remyelination, not only for MS but potentially for other neurodegenerative conditions.

Quantum BioPharma is a biopharmaceutical company focused on building a portfolio of innovative assets for the treatment of challenging neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders, as well as alcohol misuse disorders. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc., the company is advancing Lucid-MS, a patented new chemical entity that has shown in preclinical models the ability to prevent and reverse myelin degradation, the underlying mechanism of MS.

In addition to its MS program, Quantum BioPharma invented unbuzzd and spun out its OTC version to Unbuzzd Wellness Inc. (UWI), retaining a 19.84% ownership stake as of March 31, 2026, and receiving royalty payments of 7% of sales until cumulative payments reach $250 million, after which the royalty drops to 3% in perpetuity. The company retains all rights to develop similar products for pharmaceutical and medical uses.

The encouraging preliminary results from the imaging study represent a significant milestone for Quantum BioPharma and the broader MS research community. If the technique proves effective, it could transform how MS is monitored and treated, offering hope for more targeted and effective interventions. As the study progresses, further data will be crucial in confirming these early signals and advancing Lucid-MS through clinical development.
