OHB Digital Connect GmbH, a subsidiary of OHB SE, has successfully completed the upgrade of military ground stations on behalf of the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw). The project involved replacing existing technology in mobile ground stations with modern satellite communications hardware for the SATCOMBw system, allowing step-by-step modernization and return to operational use.
During a closing ceremony at Eifelkaserne in Gerolstein, the final batch of four refurbished ground stations was handed over, marking the project's completion. This achievement underscores OHB Digital Connect's role in enhancing Bundeswehr's communication infrastructure.
The contract was awarded after OHB Digital Connect expanded its capabilities through a merger with Mainz-based antenna manufacturer MT Mechatronics, which became part of the OHB Group. This collaboration enabled the successful execution of the ground station refurbishment, demonstrating effective cross-site teamwork.
This upgrade is significant for military communications, ensuring reliable and advanced satellite connectivity for the Bundeswehr's operations. The modernization extends the lifespan and functionality of existing ground stations, contributing to national defense capabilities.
