Doug Kroeker's new book, A Walkthrough of the Bible, published by Writers of the West, aims to change that by presenting the entire biblical canon as a single, cohesive narrative. The book, released on July 4, 2026, guides readers from Genesis to Revelation in eight chapters, emphasizing the unity of the sixty-six books rather than treating them as separate texts.
Kroeker, who has taught the Bible for most of his adult life, opens with the structure of the Bible, explaining how more than forty authors across roughly fifteen centuries contributed to a library that holds together as one story. He addresses why the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament arrange the same material differently, and then moves through the major eras of biblical history: Creation, the Patriarchs, the Exodus, the Conquest, the Kingdom, the Exile, and the return. The book also explores the messages of the prophets, the complementary nature of the four Gospels, and Paul's letters as pastoral responses to specific churches. Doctrinal topics such as sin, salvation, and the church's mission are woven into the overarching narrative.
The impetus for the book, according to Kroeker, is a gap in biblical literacy. “I wrote this book because I came to realize that understanding the Bible is not always as easy as those of us who grew up in the church might assume,” he said. “Bible stories have been part of our lives for as long as we can remember... But not everyone has that foundation. Not everyone has grown up in church. They were never taught the stories that we take for granted. When they hear a reference to the Exodus or Promised Land, they may have little idea where those events belong in the Bible or why they even matter. I wanted to write something that would help those who are new to the Bible and as an overview to those who are familiar with it.”
