LION Smart Production GmbH, part of LION E-Mobility Group, is deepening its commitment to stationary battery energy storage systems (BESS) by adding two internationally experienced executives to its team. Winfried Wahl joins as Head of BESS Strategy, while Sebastian Bujnoch becomes Manager Business and Sales Development, focusing on supplier relationships and customer expansion across Europe.
The personnel expansion highlights the strategic importance of BESS as a key growth pillar for LION Smart. Stationary energy storage systems are critical for integrating renewable energy, stabilizing power grids, and enabling future-proof energy supply concepts. The company aims to develop high-performance, scalable storage solutions to support the energy transition.
Winfried Wahl brings over 18 years of experience in photovoltaic and energy storage markets. A graduate electrical engineer from RWTH Aachen University, he has deep expertise across the value chain, from technology positioning to market entry strategies and bankability. He previously shaped European market entries for companies such as Hithium and LONGi, helping them achieve BNEF Tier 1 listing and reinsurance eligibility through Munich Re. Wahl also co-authored the IEA World Energy Outlook Special Report 2024 and serves as a jury member of PV Magazine. Since June 2026, he has been responsible for strategic development at LION Smart, refining product and business models and expanding partnerships.
Sebastian Bujnoch complements the team with extensive international leadership in manufacturing, operations, and the battery sector. His 16-year career includes deep insights into Asian manufacturing markets, particularly China, where he gained expertise in industrial scaling and supply chain structures. At LION Smart, Bujnoch focuses on building the BESS business unit, strengthening relationships with Chinese suppliers, and broadening the European customer portfolio.
“With Winfried Wahl and Sebastian Bujnoch, we are gaining two individuals who combine strategic market insight, international experience, and operational execution capabilities in an ideal way,” said Dr. Joachim Damasky, CEO of LION E-Mobility AG. “Their expertise will play an important role in systematically building our BESS business and positioning LION Smart as a strong partner in the European energy storage market.”
LION Smart, based in Garching, Germany, already offers a 5 MWh container solution and advanced immersion-cooled battery systems. The company operates highly automated module assembly lines at its own production facility and is listed on the Munich, Frankfurt, and Hamburg stock exchanges.
