LAURION Mineral Exploration Inc. (TSX-V: LME | OTC: LMEFF | FSE: 5YD) has provided an update on environmental, technical, and regulatory work at its 100%-owned Ishkōday Gold and Polymetallic Project in Northwestern Ontario. The company is advancing two initiatives at the historical Sturgeon River Mine: recovery and remediation of a surface waste rock stockpile, and a proposed Advanced Exploration Project to dewater and rehabilitate the flooded mine shaft. These steps are significant because they move the project closer to regulatory approval and could unlock value from historical mining waste while enabling underground exploration.

The surface stockpile recovery involves an application for a Recovery of Minerals Permit under Ontario's Mining Act, submitted to the Ministry of Energy and Mines. The stockpile, a legacy of historic operations, contains mineralized material. LAURION seeks to recover it through removal and off-site processing, followed by remediation. This approach avoids new infrastructure or underground development and is supported by environmental assessments. If approved, it would allow the company to generate potential revenue from material already on surface, aligning with its strategy of non-dilutive initiatives.

Separately, LAURION is preparing a Permit to Take Water (PTTW) application for dewatering the historical shaft, with a submission target of Q4 2026. The shaft extends approximately 642 metres below surface and has been flooded since operations ceased in 1942, holding an estimated 114,000 cubic metres of water. The proposed Advanced Exploration Project includes removing the shaft cap, installing a temporary headframe, and controlled dewatering. This would provide safe underground access for exploration drilling and sampling. No commercial production is planned. The dewatering requires a detailed hydrogeological impact assessment, which will inform the PTTW application and assess effects on groundwater and surface water. LAURION is also preparing an Advanced Exploration Closure Plan and additional environmental approvals, targeted for early 2027.

Over the past five years, LAURION has completed comprehensive environmental baseline studies, including terrestrial ecology, aquatic and benthic surveys, groundwater and surface water monitoring, shaft water characterization, and a Stage 1 Archaeological Assessment. These studies establish existing conditions and support project design and regulatory compliance. Indigenous and stakeholder consultation is ongoing through an Indigenous Joint Steering Committee with Animbiigoo Zaagi'igan Anishinaabek First Nation, Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek First Nation, and Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek First Nation. Public notice and meetings will be part of the Closure Plan process.

Management emphasizes the importance of these steps. "Five years of rigorous, independent environmental baseline work is not a small undertaking," said Cynthia Le Sueur-Aquin, President and CEO. "Recovering potentially economic residual mineralization within the stockpile, and doing so responsibly, is exactly the kind of value-additive, environmentally sound project our shareholders should expect." She added that dewatering the shaft could provide safe access to evaluate gold-bearing structures not fully explored before 1942.
