Kennedale celebrated the opening of its first dedicated dog park, Sturgeon Bark Park, on July 17, 2026. Located at 6729 Oakcrest Drive East, the park was made possible through a donation from Ron Sturgeon, who also commissioned its design. The project was coordinated by Garret Davis of Davis Commercial Services.
The park features separate areas for large and small dogs, fire hydrants and toys, a water fountain, picnic tables, and a shaded canopy for owners. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony drew Sturgeon, local officials, community members, and their dogs.
City manager Darrell Hull expressed gratitude at the event, stating, "I am so proud to accept and open our first dog park, and give heartfelt thanks to Mr. Sturgeon, as he gave us this for our citizens to enjoy with their pets, and for his help as we redevelop parts of the city."
Sturgeon Bark Park addresses a longstanding need in Kennedale, where residents previously had to travel outside the city to find a dedicated dog park. The new amenity not only provides a safe space for canine exercise and socialization but also serves as a community hub where neighbors can meet and spend time outdoors.
