The inaugural Chinatown Creator Awards, held August 27 at COYA Living, drew an over-capacity crowd and honored 20 creators for their significant impact on the Spring Mountain Road corridor's culture and commerce. The private reception, co-hosted by the luxury apartment community and ChinatownVegas.com, brought together photographers, videographers, food personalities, digital storytellers, chefs, restaurant owners, and neighborhood partners.
Writer, film director, and City Cast correspondent Jason Harris served as emcee. Honorees were recognized in five groups, mirroring their May introduction in the 'This Week in Chinatown' series by ChinatownVegas.com. Among those in attendance were @lasvegasfill, @brandonfromvegas, @wheretogovegas, @therubyontherocks, @baileyzeats, @withlove_christine, @tiny_pennguin, @giselliii93, @tiarappgyo, @antonio_loves_wings, @heydonnah, @ceslynne, @shekuni_lv, and @studiosealv. Each received a custom plaque commemorating their contributions.
"The creators honored through these awards have done far more than post about restaurants," said Joe Muscaglione, founder of ChinatownVegas.com and Chinatown Amplify. The event also showcased culinary talents from the corridor. Sparrow + Wolf and Lamaii, both MICHELIN Guide recommendations as reported by Las Vegas Weekly, offered distinctive bites. Chef Brian Howard presented a smoky, wood-fired Isaan sausage with fermented green mango, while Lamaii served garlicky crispy prawns. Chef Steve Kestler of Aroma Latin American Cocina created a citrus-forward Chinatown Ceviche exclusively for the event. "It was an honor to be part of this great community event," Kestler said.
Chef Jimmy Li and Shanghai Taste contributed a rich abalone and sea cucumber meatball, Double Zero Pie & Pub debuted its New York-style pizza, and China Mama served tangy orange chicken. Crystina Nguyen of Mama's House × Durango Social Club presented rice dumplings, and O.Onigiri offered a tri-pack of unagi, wagyu, and shrimp tempura. Noodlehead's beef rolls were passed throughout the evening, alongside its classic shredded chicken and cold noodles.
Charismatic Yo, Mochi! founder Santy Luangpraseuth brought crème brûlée mochi donuts, Chef Yuka of Moignet Café offered mini chiffon sandos, and Milk Bread kept tables stocked with cheese and guava bread. Wine and champagne were poured by Paul Ellis, while The Alchemist Bar & Restaurant provided cocktails and zero-proof beverages.
Guests included rock photographer David Plastik, whose work has appeared in Rolling Stone, and music publicist Mitch Schneider, who represented David Bowie and Tom Petty. Schneider described the event on Facebook as a "meaningful event" honoring creators "who've helped put Las Vegas Chinatown on the map."
Las Vegas Chinatown receives approximately 23.9 million visits annually and is home to 248 verified sit-down restaurants. "It's 23.9 million visits a year - more than some countries and more than most cities - all concentrated in one neighborhood," Muscaglione said. "These creators have helped the world see why."
The over-capacity attendance and broad culinary participation established a strong foundation for the future of the Chinatown Creator Awards. ChinatownVegas.com is presenting complete coverage in a special edition of This Week in Chinatown, with the written report and companion video episode released together every Monday.
