IBU-tec Advances Construction of LFP Production Facility in Bitterfeld, Targeting 2028 Operations

IBU-tec advanced materials AG is making scheduled progress on its LFP battery material production facility in Bitterfeld, Germany, with construction of logistics infrastructure and detailed engineering underway. The company announced today that the steel structure for a new logistics hall with storage capacity for approximately 1,800 pallets has been erected, and interior fit-out is expected over the next six months. Trial operations for the state-of-the-art spray tower are slated to begin in Q4 2026, following its topping-out ceremony in April 2026.

The facility, which will have an annual capacity of 15,000 tonnes, represents a fivefold increase in IBU-tec's existing capacities and is the first of its kind in Europe. It is based on a proprietary production process that does not rely on Chinese technology and is tailored to the European market. The process consumes about half the energy of conventional methods, resulting in a superior CO2 footprint. PowerCo SE has contractually secured the entire production volume for a minimum of ten years, as per the agreement announced in October 2025.

IBU-tec CEO Jörg Leinenbach stated, "We are making good progress in building the large-scale production capacities for LFP battery materials in Bitterfeld. We are in close and constructive communication with PowerCo regarding the scheduled implementation of our timeline. In the coming months, we will achieve further milestones so that production can start as expected in 2028."

The expansion of analytics capabilities in Bitterfeld and the harmonization of IT systems are also progressing on schedule. This development is a key step in building a European battery value chain, reducing dependence on Asian suppliers. The LFP cathode material produced will be used in batteries for electromobility and stationary energy storage, supporting the global shift toward sustainable energy.
