Humane Society Silicon Valley Names Nancy Willis President and Executive Director

The Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV) has appointed Nancy Willis as its new President and Executive Director, a move that signals stability and strategic direction as the organization recovers from a devastating fire and looks to the future. Willis, who has served as Interim President since March 2026, brings a wealth of experience from both the animal welfare and professional sports sectors to her new role.

Willis first joined HSSV in 2023 and quickly became an integral part of the leadership team. Over the past three years, she has held several key positions, overseeing marketing, leading the planning and execution of the organization's signature fundraising gala, The Fur Ball, and most recently, guiding HSSV's response and rebuilding efforts after a fire in December 2024 damaged its Milpitas Animal Community Center. Her appointment comes at a critical juncture as HSSV embarks on the next phase of its rebuilding and growth.

“Nancy has shown the judgment, resilience and collaborative leadership HSSV needs,” said Peter Detkin, Chair of the HSSV Board of Directors. “She understands our organization, and the community we serve, and she has helped guide HSSV through one of the most challenging periods in its history. She is well positioned to lead the organization through its next phase of rebuilding and growth.”

Willis's career path is diverse, beginning in animal welfare in 2015 as Director of Development and Marketing at the Maui Humane Society. Before transitioning to the nonprofit sector, she spent over 20 years in professional sports, including 15 years with Major League Baseball. This background has equipped her with extensive experience in leadership, marketing, fundraising, and event planning, as well as the ability to unite teams around a common goal.

“I am deeply honored to lead Humane Society Silicon Valley and grateful for the trust the Board has placed in me,” said Willis. “Over the past three years, I have seen firsthand the passion and dedication of the people who make HSSV what it is. We have an opportunity to build on that strength, deepen our impact and shape a future that reflects the full potential of this organization.”

As President, Willis will guide HSSV through its rebuilding phase while strengthening its programs, operations, and long-term ability to serve pets and people throughout the Bay Area. HSSV is an independent, privately funded nonprofit that provides adoptions, veterinary care, community programs, regional rescue partnerships, and resources to help families stay together, all aimed at saving lives and creating a better future for pets and their people.
