The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will bring its flagship promotional campaign Think Business, Think Hong Kong (TBTHK) to Kuala Lumpur on August 11, offering Malaysian businesses a platform to connect with Hong Kong's business leaders, investors, and professional services experts. The full-day symposium at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur targets Malaysian companies keen to expand beyond the domestic market, aligning with the country's New Industrial Master Plan 2030 goals of industrial transformation, sustainability, and global value chain integration.
Hong Kong, home to nearly 10,000 Chinese Mainland and overseas companies with regional operations, positions itself as Asia's leading international financial and business centre. For Malaysian firms, the city provides access to an established ecosystem of global businesses, investors, and professional service providers that can support market entry, cross-border investment, and international expansion. Leung Kwan Ho, HKTDC’s Regional Director of South East Asia & South Asia, emphasized at a press briefing that Hong Kong can serve as a superconnector and super value-adder, enabling Malaysian companies to realize ambitions beyond the domestic market, particularly in the Greater Bay Area and the wider China market.
The symposium will feature discussions on RMB internationalisation, sustainability and green innovations, Hong Kong's role as an international financial and business centre, and healthcare solutions. Algernon Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong SAR Government, and YB Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport Malaysia, will be guests of honour at the opening ceremony. In addition to the symposium, about 30 Hong Kong service providers and start-ups will showcase their products in the Business Support Zone and InnoVenture Salon, with one-on-one business consultations and on-site business matching to facilitate deals.
Malaysia and Hong Kong share strong economic ties. In 2025, Malaysia was Hong Kong’s 3rd largest trading partner among ASEAN member states. At the end of 2025, Hong Kong was Malaysia’s 2nd largest investor after Singapore, with cumulative FDI of US$34.8 billion, and the 2nd largest source of FDI with net flows of US$1.6 billion. The TBTHK campaign aims to deepen collaboration, providing Malaysian companies with connections, expertise, and market access to pursue opportunities across regional and global markets.
