Greenland Mines Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRML) announced the closing of its acquisition of the Sarfartoq Nd-Pr Rare Earths Project in southwest Greenland on September 1, 2026. The transaction, valued at $20 million in cash and $15 million in securities, positions the company to contribute significantly to the global supply of neodymium and praseodymium oxides, critical components for permanent magnets used in electric vehicles and wind turbines.
The Sarfartoq project is projected to produce an average annual NdPr oxide output that would represent approximately 34% of all NdPr oxide refined outside China at 2025 consumption levels during each of the project's nine scheduled operating years. An independent Initial Assessment, based solely on the ST1 deposit, estimates a high-case pre-tax net present value (NPV) of approximately $2.05 billion and a pre-tax internal rate of return (IRR) of 118.6%, including Indicated and Inferred Mineral Resources.
With the acquisition complete, Greenland Mines is advancing Sarfartoq toward a Pre-Feasibility Study. Planned activities include targeted infill drilling, pilot-scale metallurgical test work, mine engineering planning, environmental and social baseline studies, and drone-based magnetic surveys. These efforts are designed to further de-risk the project and refine economic parameters.
The transaction also brought Neo Performance Materials (TSX: NEO) on board as a strategic shareholder of Greenland Mines. Neo retains offtake rights for up to 60% of future Sarfartoq ore or mineral concentrate production, which will be processed at its Silmet rare earth separation facility in Estonia. This partnership underscores the project's integration into Western supply chains, a critical factor as governments and industries seek to reduce reliance on Chinese rare earth exports.
Greenland Mines operates with two divisions: Mining, which focuses on the Skaergaard Project in southeast Greenland and the newly acquired Sarfartoq project, and Biotech, including Klotho's KLTO-202 primary indication for ALS. The company's strategy is centered on building a multi-asset platform with exposure to rare earth magnet materials, precious metals, and selected midstream processing opportunities, while advancing its broader North Atlantic Critical Metals Corridor vision linking Greenland resources with allied downstream jurisdictions and industrial infrastructure.
The closure of this acquisition is a pivotal development for Greenland Mines and the rare earth industry at large. By securing a high-grade NdPr project with substantial production capacity, the company is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for permanent magnets in clean energy technologies. The project's robust economics, combined with Neo's offtake agreement, provide a clear pathway to revenue generation and long-term shareholder value.
