As electricity demand continues to outpace supply, Frontieras North America is moving forward with its first commercial-scale FASForm facility in Mason County, West Virginia. The company's announcement comes on the heels of the latest PJM capacity auction, which revealed a significant shortfall in power generation capacity across the 13-state grid and Washington, D.C.
PJM, the regional transmission organization, reported that capacity prices reached the federally approved cap of $325 per megawatt-day. The auction also showed that capacity fell 6,831 megawatts short of PJM's reliability requirement, underscoring the strain on the grid. According to PJM's independent market monitor, data center demand alone accounted for $6.3 billion of the auction's $16.4 billion total cost. This surge in electricity consumption, driven largely by the expansion of data centers, has intensified the need for new, reliable energy sources.
Frontieras is addressing this challenge with its patented FASForm process, which fractionates American coal into valuable products such as hydrogen, diesel, jet fuel, naphtha, and fertilizer—without burning the coal itself. This approach not only provides a pathway to clean-burning fuels but also supports energy security and economic development.
The company's $850 million Mason County facility is already under construction, with a $150 million institutional commitment from GEM backing the project. Frontieras has also made strides in public investment, with its inaugural Regulation A+ offering reaching its $25.7 million ceiling and attracting over 10,000 shareholders. The company has reserved the Nasdaq ticker "FASF" for its planned public listing. Its reopened Reg A+ investment opportunity is scheduled to close on Aug. 27, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. PT.
The timing of this project is critical, as regional power markets face mounting pressure. The PJM auction results highlight the urgent need for additional capacity, and Frontieras aims to contribute by delivering a process that can produce both energy and valuable byproducts. The company's focus on abundant, affordable, and available energy aligns with the growing demand for innovative solutions in the power sector.
