A community-wide effort to combat food insecurity in Middlesex County resulted in thousands of pounds of food for local pantries. The August 5 event, dubbed “Flood the Food Banks,” was organized in partnership with Middlesex United Way’s Middlesex Pantry Project, which aims to strengthen food pantries and ensure access to nutritious food throughout the year.
The one-day drive generated an estimated 2,500 to 3,000 pounds of food, which was distributed among 13 food pantries and food banks across the county, including two smaller direct drop-offs. Residents donated non-perishable staples such as canned vegetables, soup, pasta, rice, peanut butter, cereal, shelf-stable milk, canned tuna and chicken, and macaroni and cheese. Collection points were set up at participating grocery stores and community locations.
The Flood Law Firm served as the presenting partner, helping raise awareness and encouraging participation. The firm’s team also volunteered, interacting with residents and contributing directly to organizations fighting food insecurity. The initiative emphasized the importance of year-round donations. While charitable giving often spikes during the holidays, food pantries serve families in need all year. By coordinating a summer drive, organizers provided local organizations with additional resources to meet ongoing demand.
The event received local media coverage, including reporting from WTNH on the food drive and a sponsored feature highlighting the partnership. The results underscore the impact of community collaboration, with thousands of pounds of food and hundreds of dollars in financial contributions reaching organizations serving Middlesex County residents.
