FleetCollect, a trucking compliance software platform for owner-operators and small fleets, has unveiled a new AI connector that integrates with popular assistants like Claude and ChatGPT. This connector, built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), allows users to query their fleet's IFTA fuel tax, DOT compliance, and carrier data using plain language, eliminating the need to manually navigate through dashboards and reports.
The service addresses a common pain point for small carriers: essential operational data is often scattered across various records, including quarterly IFTA reports, driver files, and federal databases. With this connector, operators can connect their FleetCollect account once and then ask questions such as "What were my IFTA miles by state for the last quarter?" or "Which of my drivers have documents expiring in the next 30 days?" and receive direct, plain-language answers.
In addition to accessing their own data, the connector can vet any motor carrier using live FMCSA data. By providing a USDOT or MC number, users can retrieve operating authority, insurance, and safety information, enabling brokers and dispatchers to verify partners without leaving the chat interface.
Security and privacy are central to the design. All 14 tools offered by the connector are read-only, meaning the AI can only look up and summarize information, not modify or delete it. Driver personally identifiable information, such as emails, phone numbers, and license numbers, is filtered out and never returned. Each request is scoped to the authenticated account, ensuring that operators only see their own data. The connector uses OAuth 2.1 with Dynamic Client Registration and PKCE, allowing users to authorize access with their existing FleetCollect login and revoke it at any time.
Herman Armstrong, founder of FleetCollect, emphasized the motivation behind the feature: "Owner-operators didn't get into trucking to click through dashboards. We built this so a driver can just ask — 'what do I owe in IFTA,' 'which of my guys is about to expire,' 'is this carrier legit' — and get a straight answer from their own numbers. We made it read-only and privacy-filtered on purpose: it answers questions, it doesn't touch your data."
The connector is available to customers with an active FleetCollect subscription and is being submitted to the Claude connector directory and the ChatGPT app directory.
