Energy Fuels Inc. (NYSE American: UUUU) (TSX: EFR), a leading U.S. producer of uranium, rare earths, and critical materials, announced that Ross R. Bhappu has been appointed chief executive officer, effective April 15, 2026. Bhappu, who has served as president since August 2025, brings more than 30 years of leadership experience spanning mining, critical minerals, finance, and international resource development. He succeeds Mark S. Chalmers, who is retiring after more than eight years as CEO and will remain with the company as an exclusive uranium and rare earth consultant for two years.
The leadership change comes at a pivotal time for Energy Fuels as it expands beyond its core uranium business into rare earth elements and other critical materials. Bhappu’s extensive background in global resource development and finance is expected to accelerate the company’s strategic initiatives, including the advancement of its rare earth projects and the potential recovery of medical isotopes from its White Mesa Mill. The mill, located in Utah, is the only fully licensed conventional uranium mill operating in the United States and serves as a hub for rare earth production and medical isotope evaluation.
Energy Fuels has been the top U.S. producer of natural uranium concentrate, supplying nuclear utilities. The company is also developing three heavy mineral sands and rare earths projects: the Vara Mada Project in Madagascar, the Bahia Project in Brazil, and the Donald Project in Australia, held through a joint venture with Astron Limited. These projects position Energy Fuels to play a significant role in the global supply chain for rare earths, which are critical for technologies such as electric vehicles, wind turbines, and defense systems.
Mark S. Chalmers, the outgoing CEO, led the company through a period of significant growth and diversification. Under his leadership, Energy Fuels expanded its focus from uranium to include rare earth elements and critical minerals, aligning with U.S. government efforts to reduce reliance on foreign supplies, particularly from China. Chalmers will continue to provide expertise as a consultant, ensuring a smooth transition and continued strategic guidance.
Ross Bhappu’s appointment signals a renewed emphasis on international development and financial acumen. With a career that includes leadership roles in mining and critical minerals companies, as well as experience in investment banking, Bhappu is well-positioned to drive Energy Fuels’ growth in the critical materials sector. The company’s stock trades on the NYSE American under the symbol “UUUU” and on the TSX under “EFR.”
