The Dr. Ian Weisberg Grant for Future Healthcare Leaders has opened applications for undergraduate students pursuing careers in healthcare, providing financial support and recognition for their dedication. Founded by Dr. Ian Weisberg, a distinguished cardiac electrophysiologist, the grant aims to foster the next generation of medical professionals by supporting students on pre-medical or pre-health tracks.
Eligible applicants must be enrolled as undergraduates at accredited institutions, pursuing pre-med, pre-nursing, pre-PA, pre-pharmacy, or similar programs, and maintain a strong academic record. The application deadline is July 15, 2026. Candidates are required to submit an essay of 750–1,000 words responding to: "Describe a personal experience that solidified your commitment to a career in healthcare. How did this experience shape your understanding of patient care, and how do you plan to carry those lessons forward into your future medical practice?"
The grant provides a one-time award of $1,000 to a deserving student, selected based on academic achievement, essay quality, and demonstrated commitment to healthcare. The winner will be announced on August 15, 2026. Dr. Weisberg, known for his pioneering contributions to cardiac care and global health initiatives, including designing a cardiac operating room in Kenya, established the grant to cultivate healthcare professionals who combine clinical excellence with compassion and innovation.
"The Dr. Ian Weisberg Grant embodies a commitment to fostering the next wave of healthcare leaders who will carry forward the principles of excellence, empathy, and innovation," said Dr. Ian Weisberg. "It is both an investment in individual students and a broader investment in the future of medicine."
The grant reflects Dr. Weisberg's philosophy that healthcare extends beyond hospital walls and that nurturing future leaders is essential to advancing patient care globally. By offering tangible support, the grant enables emerging professionals to focus on their studies and early clinical experiences with greater confidence.
