The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) has announced that its original documentary Chatsworth Through Time will be released on public television stations across the United States in August 2026. The program, distributed by American Public Television (APT), will air on stations including Connecticut Public Television (CPTV), offering viewers an in-depth look at one of Great Britain's most renowned estates.
Located in the Peak District National Park, Chatsworth has been home to the Devonshire family for 500 years. The documentary traces the estate's evolution from the Tudor period to the 21st century, highlighting how each generation of Dukes and Duchesses renovated and expanded the house to reflect political developments, social changes, and shifting architectural styles. Hosted by Chatsworth's senior curators, the program provides unprecedented access to the house's archives and culminates in an extended interview with the current Duke and Duchess of Devonshire.
“It was an honor at the ICAA to work with the Chatsworth House Trust, providing a unique opportunity to thoroughly explore the story of a house rich in architectural and artistic history,” said ICAA president Peter Lyden. “By opening the house's archives and hearing directly from the Duke of Devonshire, Chatsworth Through Time provides unprecedented insight into the legendary estate.”
The documentary is part of the ICAA's Design in Mind film series, which aims to promote appreciation of classical and traditional design. The ICAA, a nonprofit membership organization headquartered in New York City with chapters across the United States, offers classes, travel programs, lectures, awards, and conferences. It also publishes the academic journal Classicist and the Classical America Series in Art and Architecture.
Chatsworth itself is a Grade I listed house and stables, set within a 105-acre garden and a 1,822-acre park. It houses one of Europe's most significant private art collections, accumulated over seventeen generations. The estate operates as a registered charity under the Chatsworth House Trust, which reinvests visitor income into conservation, exhibitions, events, learning, and community outreach. Visitors can also stay on the estate in award-winning hotels, inns, and cottages.
Connecticut Public, which includes CPTV and Connecticut Public Radio (WNPR), is one of the stations scheduled to air the documentary.
