Baltimore's 'Charm'tastic Mile' Seeks Unprecedented 100-Year Agreement with City Officials

The 'Charm'tastic Mile' of Baltimore (CTMB-1.3), a federally registered trademark street corridor, is seeking an unprecedented 100-year agreement with the City of Baltimore and Mayor Brandon Scott. The move aims to solidify the 1.3-mile stretch as a permanent fixture in Charm City's future, particularly as the Inner Harbor undergoes a nearly $1 billion construction project expected to complete by 2030.

Introduced to the city on April 25, 2016, the 'Charm'tastic Mile' celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. It is the only USPTO trademarked street in Baltimore and the state of Maryland, joining an elite group that includes Chicago's Magnificent Mile, Rodeo Drive, and the Las Vegas Strip. The trademark was officially published on September 15, 2020.

The corridor connects downtown west, the Inner Harbor, and Harbor East, running from South Greene and West Pratt streets to South President and Fleet streets. It has gained recognition as one of the Top 10-15 Most Famous Streets in America, according to Google search rankings. The 'Charm'tastic Mile' was also prominently featured in the Baltimore edition of Monopoly, launched on October 24, 2025, with its marquee placement on the Chance cards.

Mayor Brandon Scott and Maryland Governor Wes Moore both honored the 10th anniversary with a Certificate of Recognition and a Governor's Citation, respectively. The 'Charm'tastic Mile' shares its introduction date with the iconic Domino Sugars neon sign, which debuted on April 25, 1951, exactly 65 years earlier.

Derrick E Vaughan, analyst for Famous Streets & Sports Culture In America, emphasized that the 100-year agreement would ensure the ownership of the 'Charm'tastic Mile,' its logo, and street signs remain in Baltimore permanently. He noted that as the popularity of famous streets grows globally, trademarked corridors like this one will become increasingly significant in the global economy.

The Inner Harbor redevelopment, a major catalyst for the city's future, is expected to benefit from the 'Charm'tastic Mile's' established brand. The agreement would also coincide with the lead-up to the USA's 250th anniversary celebrations. The 'Charm'tastic Mile' is described as the evolution of the 'Charm City' nickname, which was coined in 1975 by then-Mayor William Donald Schaefer, whose 105th birthday falls on November 2.

The 'Charm'tastic Mile' remains the only USPTO trademarked street in Baltimore and Maryland, and its 100-year agreement proposal marks a bold step toward preserving its legacy for generations to come.
