Autonomic AI, LLC has announced AssuredCode-C, a specialized software synthesis engine designed for mission-critical military platforms, hypersonic vehicles, and autonomous defense hardware. Unlike general-purpose large language models (LLMs) that generate code, AssuredCode-C focuses on meeting stringent military-grade safety, security, and execution requirements. This targeted approach aims to address the growing concern that LLM-generated code may not be reliable enough for autonomous systems where failures can have catastrophic consequences.
The core of AssuredCode-C is its restriction to generating only MISRA-compliant bare-metal C, a language known for its safety and determinism in embedded systems. This deliberate limitation ensures that the generated code is optimized for air-gapped platforms, where memory safety and predictable behavior are paramount. Developers create templates offline, which are then tested and simulated exhaustively to ensure correctness before being used as specifications. This template-based approach allows for rigorous validation, which is crucial in safety-critical applications.
One of the standout features of AssuredCode-C is its remarkable performance. The synthesis speed per code block is benchmarked at under 0.5 milliseconds, enabling dynamic, real-time code generation at the sensor edge. This ultra-low latency is essential for autonomous systems that must react instantaneously to changing environments. Additionally, the energy consumption is remarkably low, averaging about 2 Joules per passing module. This is roughly one-hundredth of the energy footprint of traditional LLM inference pipelines, making it feasible for power-constrained devices such as micro-UAVs and tactical hardware to generate verified updates on the fly.
To guarantee zero downtime and eliminate the risk of catastrophic failures, AssuredCode-C incorporates a Blue-Green deployment architecture. This system uses a certified hardware router to split incoming sensor data into two isolated partitions: the Blue partition, which is authoritative and drives physical actuators, and the Green partition, which runs freshly synthesized code in a shadow mode, with outputs monitored but not actuated. This allows for safe testing of new code against live operational data. For tactical missions, human-in-the-loop verification can be integrated to ensure that the new code behaves as expected before it takes control.
Once the Green partition passes all safety checks, authority is transferred atomically, with no interruption to the control loops. The former Blue partition then becomes the new shadow, providing an instant version failover in case of unforeseen issues. This fail-safe mechanism is critical for autonomous systems operating in contested environments.
John Harby, Founder and CEO of Autonomic AI, emphasized the importance of safety in autonomous systems: "In autonomous environments, safety must be top priority. 'Statistically probable' software is a critical vulnerability. AssuredCode-C does not look to compete with LLM code generation. AssuredCode-C is a razor-focused, military-grade engine designed to output exact, MISRA-compliant bare-metal C in under half a millisecond while drawing a fraction of the power required by conventional AI."
AssuredCode-C is now available for integration evaluation under NDA, classified site demonstrations, and pilot deployment with U.S. Defense Primes, the Department of Defense, and allied defense agencies. The technology is patent pending, and Autonomic AI is positioning itself as a key player in the defense and aerospace software sector, where reliability and determinism are non-negotiable.
